The Great Railway Show is an international railway event, in which many engines from all over the world participate in a variety of competitions, including strength, speed and beauty. Each event is made up of five different competitions with five different engines competing in each one to see who wins. During The Great Race, the Great Railway Show was held in England.
Events[]
The Strength Competition[]
The strength competition is made up of five different engines, who must pull heavy flatbeds of sleepers to see who is the strongest engine. During the very first Great Railway Show, Carlos participated in this event and won.
The winner of the competition in the special is unknown.
The Best Decorated Engine Parade[]
Unlike the other events in the Great Railway Show, the best decorated engine parade is not a race. Instead, the engines participating in the event go slowly through the yard until the judges declare a winner. Rajiv is the winner of this competition.
The Great Race[]
The great race was held on a stretch of track just outside the railway show yard, and involves five different engines racing against each-other to see who can make it to the finish line. Étienne was the one who won this event.
The Shunting Challenge[]
The shunting challenge involves five different shunting engines, who must shunt a train made up of flatbeds, box-vans, tankers and a brakevan as fast as they can. Thomas was originally intended to participate in this event, but when he was damaged in an accident, Percy was chosen to compete instead. Percy dropped out after Thomas came to the yard. Ashima won the race after Thomas gave up his chance at winning, but Thomas was also declared a winner for his selflessness.

- The Great Railway Show is based on the Olympic Games, an international event in which thousands of athletes from the world participate in a variety of different competitions. The Great Race will also be released in 2016, the same year that the 2016 Summer Olympics will be starting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
- Sodor has the most representatives of any country in the event, with a total of five engines. India and England also each have two representatives.
- Africa is the only continent that is not represented in the Great Railway Show.
