The Mid Sodor Railway was a 2ft3in narrow gauge railway which was operated from 1880 up until 1947. Though some parts of the line were later rebuilt for the 15" Arlesdale Railway, the remainder of the railway is still closed.
Planning and ConstructionEdit
The Mid Sodor Railway was first mentioned in the Railway Series by Sir Handel and Peter Sam in the book, The Little Old Engine, when they feared that the Skarloey Railway was going to be sold off. The railway made its first official appearance in Duke the Lost Engine, and was the main setting for all four stories featured in the book.
In the television series, the Mid Sodor Railway first appeared in the fourth season episode, Granpuff. Many of the sets that were used for the Mid Sodor Railway were also used for the Skarloey Railway in the same season.
