Barry, named after the scrapyards he was rescued from, Barry Island, was a character who was originally intended to appear in the Railway Series. He was to debut in the book, Barry the Rescue Engine, in the 1980's, but the book was cancelled as the younger fans wanted more stories focused on Thomas and his friends.
Technical Details
Barry was intended to be based on a BR Standard Class 2. He is most likely based on the 2MT 2-6-0 class of tender engines instead of the 2MT 2-6-2T tank engine class, as none of the tank engines were sent to Barry Scrapyard. It is unknown what his livery would have looked like.
